Study tour

This is a special format for choir conductors, music students, and anyone interested in singing with children. Join an international group of colleagues and explore the festival from a professional point of view.

The Study tour is a full day program. In the mornings you visit ateliers, observe and discuss, led by experienced guides Inge Sykora (BE) and Linas Balandis (LT). The afternoons are filled with interesting talks with the atelier leaders, workshops, repertoire sessions etc. Some of the topics: the didactic methods used by each atelier conductor, the choral practices in various countries, new trends in repertoire for children and performance. Study tour participants also attend en discuss some of the choir-to-choir concerts and Open Singings. We will publish a detailed program closer to the festival. Read more in the FAQ.

Practical

If you are part of a participating choir, you can indicate on the participation list that you will join the study tour.If you come without choir you can use the specific registration form for the study tour. You can take festival meals if you want. Festival accommodation for study tour participants is possible in the low budget boarding schools or you can find accommodation yourself.
We provide music scores as work copies (to be returned after the study tour). There is also a possibility to buy all or some original scores.

Conductor

  • Inge Sykora (BE)

Inge teaches classical singing at music academies in the region of Antwerp. She is the founder and artistic director of the Caloroso-choirs. In these choirs, singers grow from the children’s choirs through the youth choirs into adult singers with a solid vocal and musical base. With Vocal ensemble Caloroso, Inge Sykora won prizes at the European Music Festival for Young People (BE), the “Heart Of Europe” Festival (DE),  the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod (Wales), and others. At these festivals, Caloroso is happy to be an ambassador for Flemish choral music. The ensemble has many world premieres of Flemish compositions to its credit. Inge is a member of the Advisory Committee of Koor&Stem and a board member of the Flemish Federation of Young Choirs (VFJK). She organises beVoiced, a bi-annual festival day for equal voice youth choirs in Flanders.  

Conductor

  • Linas Balandis (LT)

Currently Linas Balandis is the artistic director and conductor of the Kariunas Male Choir of the General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy, conductor of the Siauliai State Chamber Choir Polifonija, teacher and assistant conductor of the Azuoliukas Boys’ and Young Men’s Choir and assistant conductor of the Choir Conducting Department of the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy. His areas of interest are choir in the rites of the Catholic Church, religious music for choir by Lithuanian choral composers and development of phrasing when working with choir.
